Building Relationships

Chapa elementary students participated in a library group challenge on the 100th day of school. The activity was to help them build their cooperative skills. Students were asked to complete the task of constructing the tallest tower possible using 100 red plastic cups without them toppling over.
As the groups completed the task, they had to overcome sabotages. Teachers and participating administrators were expected to knock down the towers which represented obstacles students... would encounter as they continued their education throughout their life.
The groups completed the task very quickly but because of the sabotages, they had to keep trying and trying to complete the task successfully. When students were asked what the hardest part was, their answer was, “The difficult part was not giving up when things got tough or frustrating, we had to keep trying over and over again.”
This was a great fun and engaging learning experience for everyone who was involved. Students learned that no matter how difficult life would get they are expected to never give up, and to continue working as a team to try to always be the best they could
be.
